Ochapéu também pode ser usado por necessidade como: em Harry Potter e a Câmara Secreta ele leva Fawkes e a espada de Grinffydor e no ultimo Livro , Harry deixava uma tarefa para Neville , matar a cobra de Voldemort .Enquanto Voldemort tenta queimar o chapéu seletor sobre a cabeça de Neville , ele retira a espada do interior do chapéu e mata Nagini.
